Enghandja Village Gets Water Minimize

The village of Enghandja is a couple of kilometers off the main road to Eenhana. It has been in existence for over 100 years. Even today its people live in ‘kraal’s’ without any water supply or electricity, their children walking to school.

However, things are starting to look up in Enghandja.

Salt Essential IT, a Namibian IT Service Provider, has taken Enghandja under its wing, committing to supporting the village for the next five years. Every year a different project will be selected, aimed at improving the standard of living for inhabitants of Enghandja.

At the handover ceremony on 22 October 2008, Jürgen Weiss, Managing Director of Salt Essential IT, handed over the first donation. The funds are to be used to install water pipes so that villagers do not have to walk the 2 km’s to the nearest water tap.

Unfortunately the Governor of the Ohangwena Region, Honourable Usko Nghaamwa, was not able to attend, but he was represented by the Councillor of the Ohangwena Region, the Honourable Nambinga. Other VIP’s included the Chief of the Headmans of the Eudaneko traditional authority,Tate George Nelulu, Headman Hamutenya and Vilho Hamalwa, a community member spearheading the project.

The Councillor said in his speech, ‘It is now up to the community to uphold their commitment as SALT Essential IT has upheld their commitment.’ More congratulatory speeches by the Councillor and other parties followed, after which the cheque for N$ 20 000-00 was handed to Headman Hamutenya of Enghandja Village.

A traditional dance celebrated the occasion and a traditional Oshiwambo lunch was provided by the Enghandja community.
